Industrial Robots Potential in Architecture

The article draws on the increasing interest of creative industries for the use of industrial robots as partners in the creative process. Industrial robots have become appealing to creative industries due to their multifunctional character and their possibility of developing different applications. Instead of devising more specialized machines, one can now use a single industrial robots equiped with a variety of end-effectors. By using the same machine with different tools, creatives can relink with tranditional processes, where craftsman’s hand tools change depending on necessities.
The research presented in the article focuses in the integration of the design logic with the fabrication process. The intention is to provide a continous feedback between the creators intent and the logic and the manufacturing process.
A series of projects under the ROBO_CRAFT title from our studio, described in the article, document the research with the aim to explore the use of industrial robots in the creation and fabrication of architectural artefacts.
